Introduction

Throughout the four years I have been in high school I have always overheard students talking about Mr. Gallagher’s Facing History and Ourselves class.  After hearing nothing but positive remarks, I decided to take this remarkable class.  I would recommend this class for several reasons, one being that each student said that this class has opened their minds to the glorious as well as the depressing depths of history along with truly understanding your very own identity.  I was able to find out that the course went into depth about material that ranged from World War II to the Holocaust through the use of movies, documentaries, and condensed packets of information.  Since the course displayed most of its information through videos, I knew that I would be kept interested which in the end it would be easier to obtain information.  Following the films all of the classes had to blog our thoughts/feelings about the video seen as opposed to nightly homework, which made the class less stressful.  I also decided to take this course because during my sophomore year I had the privilege of being taught by Mr. Gallagher who has become an enormous role model in my education and has had a large impact on my life.  With his constant respect towards each of his students, his generous personality, and dedication to help each student achieve the best possible education, I knew that Facing History and Ourselves would be an elective worth taking.  If I had not taken this class, I would have regretted my decision immensely based on how much I have learned so much from such an amazing teacher.  I believe that each and every student in the high school should take this course for it will opens ones mind up to themselves and the eye-opening events that took place in the depths of history.
